Introduction

A ‘gurukula’ or ‘gurukulam’ was a type of education system in ancient India with shishya ('students' or 'disciples') living near or with the guru, in the same house. In the Gurukula system of education, a pupil or shishya, after his initiation (sacred thread ceremony), lived in the house of his guru, or teacher, and studied the Vedas and other subjects under his guidance, for a period of 12 years. Gurus were expected to teach everything they knew to the disciple during this period. Vedas were orally transmitted from Guru to Vidyarthi under the ‘Gurukula system’ by rigorous practice and discipline

In Sama Veda, the syllabus is divided in to Purva-Archika and Uttara-Archika.

The Vidyarthis would be able to complete Sama Vedam syllabus, over a period of 7 to 9 years.
In our Institution, if the Vidyarthi joins at the age of 8 and studies class III at the time of joining he would complete the course simultaneously when he completes class XII.

The yearwise syllabus for ‘Sama Vedam’ is as follows:

5	Arka, Dwantham, Shukriyam (206 samam) / (206) அர்கா, துவந்தம், ஸுக்ரியம் (206 சமம்)
6	Vratham, Mahanaamni (90 samam), Poorvachikam(6 adhyayam) வ்ரதம், மஹாநாம்னி, (90 சமம்), பூர்வார்ச்சிகம் (6 அத்யாயம்)

The Veda classes will commence every year after the Avani Avittam i.e after the Upa-karma.

The Vidyarthis on entering the Patasala will be trained to do Nithya karmas/Anustanam viz., Trikala Sandya Vandanam and Samithathanam. Aksharabyasam and Slokas viz., Swasthi, Thodakashtakam, Vishnu Sahasranamam and other slokas will also be taught.

Timings:

Regular Vedic class timings – 5.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.

CBSE School Holidays – 8.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.

Anadhyanana Days (Pournami and Amavasya Pradhamai) – No Vedic classes.

Examinations:

Monthly tests (oral) - will be conducted every month by the Adhyapakars.
Half yearly (oral) - will also be conducted by the Adhyapakars.
Written exams will be conducted twice in a year.
Annual exams (oral) – will be conducted (once in a year) by external Vedic Pandits/Vidwans.
Kal Vaitha Vaaram –Annual competition will also be conducted by external examiners.

Note:

Under the traditional guru kula system without dual/multiple education, a Vidyarthi is expected to study full time for a minimum period of 10 to 12 years to complete the full portion of Sama Vedam (Purva and Uttara Archika).
If a Vidyarthi joins in a class of CBSE other than in class III, he would study only the first year syllabus of the Rig Vedam, irrespective of his age/class.
Further for a Vidyarthi who is unable to cope-up and study well, the period of completion of Vedic studies will be different and would be according to his capabilities.
Some Vidyarthis would have joined in a class other than in class three and would therefore not be able to complete the Vedic syllabus even though he would have studied up to class XII. Such Vidyarthis can stay in our campus, study the Vedas and complete the entire syllabus at our Institution subject to our terms and conditions.

5.00 to 5.45 am	Hot/cold water bath assisted by Poshakars.
5.45 to 6.15am	Milk/Health Drink
6.15 to 6.45 am	Sandhyavandhanam and Samidhadhanam , Madhyanikam (in the open area at different places)
7.00 to 7.30am	Breaskfast at Bhojanasala for all students at a time.
7.30 to 8.15am	Doctor’s Visit
7.30 to 7.45 am	Ready for school with uniform/Id card / shoes and socks-Classes I-V
8.15am	Coaching class for IX & X at CBSE School
8:40am	Ready for school -Senior Classes VI-VIII
8.45 am	Ready for School – Class -XI
8:10 to 11.30 am	School bell/prayer and regular CBSE classes.
11.30 to 12.10am	Lunch at Bhojanasala for all at a time.
12.10 to 2.10 pm	Afternoon CBSE classes
2.10 to 2.25 pm	Biscuit distribution for Vedic students at the CBSE school by poshakar
2:25 to 3:30 pm	Special classes for Vedic students at school Classes I-V
3.30 pm	Junior students come back to the hostel, change dress and play.
3.45 to 4.30 pm	Special classes for vedic students at school Classes VI-XI
4.45 pm	Senior students come back to the hostel change dress and follow the routine
4.45 to 5.15 pm	Snacks and Health Drink.
5.15 to 5.50 pm	Sandhyavandanam and Samidhadhanam
6:00 to 8:30 pm	Veda classes at Veda patashala.
8.50 to 9.15 pm	Dinner for all students at Bhojanasala all at a time.
9.30 to 9.45 pm	Phone communication with parents .
9.50 pm	Go to their respective places for sleeping at Bhojansala Ground&First floor and five to 6 rooms provided for senior students.
